Poison frontman Bret Michaels has canceled all of his remaining shows for the year after a health emergency that followed his comeback concert. Michaels had recently postponed his solo band shows following complicated kidney stone surgery before returning to the stage for a comeback performance at The Bowl at Sugar Hill.

The statement explains that doctors and paramedics evaluated Michaels immediately after the show and determined he still needs additional time to recover.

“Following Bret Michaels’ comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill, doctors and paramedics determined immediately after the show that he still needs additional rest and recovery from his recent surgeries,” the statement read. “Bret will be taking the next several months off to heal and get back to 100%.”

The statement also included comments from Michaels’ physicians regarding the decision to pause his touring schedule.

“Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel stated, ‘We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being. He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels.'”

Michaels Entertainment Group also addressed the impact of the cancellations on upcoming appearances.

“Our deepest apologies from Michaels Entertainment Group, as we were truly looking forward to the rest of this year’s shows, including The Mountain music festival, private events and all the great shows coming up,” the statement continued. “We now look ahead and to Bret being able to return healthy, strong and ready to rock.”

Michaels is expected to take the next several months off before resuming performances.

This latest setback follows a difficult stretch for the Poison frontman that began just weeks earlier while he was in the middle of his Live & Amplified World Tour.

Michaels pushed through severe kidney pain and performed three concerts before finally seeking hospitalization. He chose to honor his tour commitments even as the pain intensified with each show. The stone ultimately failed to pass on its own, leading him to undergo an unanticipated surgical procedure to remove it.

His doctors instructed him to take three to four weeks of post-operative recuperation following what was described as an immediate, complicated obstructing kidney stone surgery. A stent was left in place until his body could fully heal. That recovery window was complicated by Michaels’ underlying health conditions, including Type 1 diabetes and a lower-back compression issue. Both factored into his medical team’s cautious approach.

Despite the setback, Michaels expressed hope that he would be back on the road by late August. He framed his comeback show at The Bowl at Sugar Hill as a test of that timeline. The outcome of that performance ultimately confirmed his doctors’ concerns, reinforcing their decision to keep him off the road for a longer period than initially planned.

Michaels spoke from his hospital room after the surgery and reflected on the experience with a sense of perspective. He expressed what he called “complete gratitude” for the healthcare providers who treated him during the ordeal.
