Wolfgang Van Halen Shares The Best Advice His Father Eddie Gave Him
Mammoth WVH founder Wolfgang Van Halen opened up about his late father, Van Halen lead guitarist Eddie Van Halen during a recent interview with Anne Erickson. In addition to looking back on his childhood, Wolfgang revealed the best advice his father gave him as a musician.
After Eddie Van Halen passed away on October 6, 2020, at the age of 65, losing his long battle with cancer, Van Halen decided not to continue as a band without the legendary guitarist. Being a member of the band, Wolfgang Van Halen focused on his solo career and founded his solo band Mammoth WVH, titled after Van Halen’s previous name.
Despite all the pressure of being the son of one of the guitarist musicians that has ever lived, Wolfgang Van Halen managed to release an incredibly successful self-titled debut album on June 11, 2021. The record was an instant triumph as it topped many charts such as Top Rock Albums, Hard Rock Albums, and Independent Albums charts, as well as reaching number 12 on Billboard 200.
There’s no doubt that Mammoth WVH founder proved that he is a force to be reckoned with although releasing only one studio album with successful singles such as ‘Distance,’ ‘You’re to Blame,’ and ‘Don’t Back Down.’ On top of this, Wolfgang also announced that his band will be joining Guns N’ Roses for their upcoming summer tour, talk about success.
While focusing on his music, Wolfgang Van Halen had to deal with losing his father, Eddie Van Halen, who always expressed how proud he was of his son, referring to Wolfgang as ‘greatest musician in the world.’ During a recent interview, the musician revealed the greatest musical advice from his supportive father and it’s rather hilarious.
Coming from Eddie Van Halen himself, many fans would expect a piece of wise and magical advice when it comes to music, especially that advice is going to be given to his son. However, Wolfgang recently revealed that it’s far from all of those things as his father advised him to have a good time while doing music as well as not taking it too seriously.
In addition to this, Eddie Van Halen said to his son what to do when he makes a mistake. Apparently, the best way to cover a mistake is to do it again, according to the guitarist. By suggesting to make the mistake twice on stage, Eddie encouraged his son to trick the audience into thinking it wasn’t a mistake in the first place.
In his own words, Wolf Van Halen said:
“Overall just to have a good time and not take anything too seriously.
But one piece of advice, it’s a bit of a joke, but his father would tell him and he would tell me – if you ever make a mistake, do it twice so the audience thinks you meant to do it.”
