Wolfgang Van Halen recently shared his excitement about upcoming albums, highlighting Maynard James Keenan’s new Puscifer record as particularly noteworthy in an interview with Loudwire.
The musician expressed enthusiasm for several anticipated releases. He focused on two records that have caught his attention despite not being fully released yet.
“I’m really excited about the new Puscifer record Normal Isn’t. I know it’s not out yet but the songs I’ve heard from that are really, really great,” Van Halen said.
He also mentioned another upcoming release that has captured his interest.
“[And] the new Karnivool record, they just announced a new single. That record doesn’t come out until next year either but the three songs that they’ve released off of In Verses are awesome, I’m very excited about that,” he continued.
Van Halen’s enthusiasm for Puscifer’s upcoming release comes at a significant time for Maynard James Keenan’s experimental project. The project has been building anticipation among fans and fellow musicians alike.
JamBase reported that Normal Isn’t marks Puscifer’s first album in over five years, following their 2020 release Existential Reckoning. The new record is scheduled for release on February 6, 2026, via Puscifer Entertainment/Alchemy Recordings/BMG. This makes it one of the most anticipated alternative releases of the year.
The album represents a creative evolution for the multi-dimensional band featuring Keenan, Mat Mitchell, and Carina Round. Consequence of Sound noted that Keenan has described the musical direction as leaning into “goth meets punk” influences. This suggests a darker and more aggressive sound than previous Puscifer releases.
The recording features an impressive lineup of guest musicians that adds to the album’s appeal. Revolver revealed that the album includes contributions from Tool’s Danny Carey, King Crimson’s Tony Levin, and Ian Ross. This brings together talent from progressive rock’s most respected circles.
To support the new album, Loudwire confirmed that Puscifer will embark on a comprehensive 32-date North American tour starting March 20, 2026, in Las Vegas. The tour will conclude May 14 at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. This extensive touring schedule demonstrates the band’s commitment to bringing their new material directly to fans across the continent.
Both albums are expected to be released in 2026, giving fans something to anticipate in the coming year.
