Whitesnake members Tommy Aldridge, Joel Hoekstra, Marco Mendoza, Michele Luppi, and Dino Jelusić have announced a special concert under the name “Whitesnake Experience by the Members of Whitesnake” at Serbia’s Guitar Festival in August. David Coverdale is notably absent from the lineup, as reported by the festival’s official website.

The festival announcement emphasized David Coverdale’s endorsement of the project. It highlighted the special nature of the performance.

“One of the greatest vocalists in the world, David Coverdale, gave his approval for this project, adding a special exclusivity to the Guitar Festival,” the festival announcement read.

Replacement singer Dino Jelusick expressed his excitement about the opportunity in a detailed statement about the upcoming performance.

“We’re preparing a special setlist of Whitesnake’s greatest hits,” Dino Jelusick said. “Singing the songs of my childhood idol David Coverdale is a special honor and pleasure for me. Although I’ve performed with big names in the rock world in the meantime, Whitesnake’s songs suit me best. Playing with such a fantastic group of musicians is pure hedonism for me.”

This announcement comes amid a broader context of Whitesnake’s evolving lineup dynamics. It also reflects Coverdale’s history of strategic band management decisions.

Every Record Tells a Story reported that Coverdale has exercised significant creative control throughout Whitesnake’s history. He has made strategic lineup changes to align with his artistic vision. This collaborative effort represents another instance of Whitesnake members moving forward with projects that have Coverdale’s blessing but don’t require his direct participation.

The band’s history includes notable departures that stemmed from creative differences and lifestyle disagreements. Ultimate Guitar documented that Coverdale has previously spoken about the challenges of maintaining band cohesion while pursuing his artistic direction. This includes his departure from Deep Purple and subsequent decisions regarding Whitesnake’s lineup.

One of the most documented cases involves former guitarist John Sykes. His departure highlighted the complexities of working within Coverdale’s vision. Soap Central revealed that Sykes experienced a bitter departure from the band due to disagreements over creative direction and lineup changes. This illustrates the challenges musicians face when aligning with Coverdale’s evolving artistic goals.

The current project demonstrates a different approach. Coverdale’s approval allows band members to celebrate Whitesnake’s legacy while maintaining their own creative autonomy. Deep Purple Fan Forum noted that this type of collaborative arrangement reflects the band’s maturation. It also shows Coverdale’s willingness to support projects that honor Whitesnake’s musical heritage without requiring his direct involvement.

The Guitar Festival is scheduled to take place from August 28-30, 2025, in Zaječar, Serbia.
