Whitesnake guitarist Dino Jelusick recently commented on David Coverdale’s retirement announcement. He shared his perspective on the decision in an interview featured on The Metal Voice.

Jelusick revealed that he had advance knowledge of Coverdale’s plans. He explained how the announcement affected him despite expecting it.

“I’ve known about this for like two weeks already, but it still strike me when he posted that (announcement),” Jelusick said. “David called me five days ago. He was like super nice and just supportive and stuff. We haven’t played for three years, and it’s been going on for so long.”

The guitarist reflected on the inevitability of the decision. He acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding its timing.

“I knew this was going to come. It’s just you never know when it’s going to come and what’s going to happen,” he continued.

Coverdale’s retirement marks a significant moment in rock music history. It ends an extraordinary career that spanned more than five decades. The announcement came after years of health challenges that had impacted the legendary frontman’s ability to perform.

David Coverdale officially announced his retirement from music in November 2025. This ended an extraordinary career spanning more than 50 years as a frontman for both Whitesnake and Deep Purple, as reported by official sources. The decision was driven by serious health issues that had forced him off the road since 2022, making it increasingly difficult to maintain his demanding performance schedule.

In his retirement announcement, Coverdale expressed his readiness to move forward with the next chapter of his life. His emotional video message to fans revealed his intention to “hang up his rock and roll platform shoes and skintight jeans” and enjoy retirement. The message was filled with gratitude toward the musicians, crew members, and devoted fans who had supported him throughout his remarkable career.

Following his retirement announcement, Whitesnake released what they described as their final music video. The band released “Forevermore (DC & Hook City Strings – Official Video 2025 Remix),” which features Coverdale singing backed by strings and includes personal photos. This release emphasizes the closing chapter of his musical journey, as noted by Z94.3 Radio. The video serves as a fitting farewell to fans and a celebration of Coverdale’s legendary contributions to rock music.

The retirement of David Coverdale represents the end of an era for Whitesnake. The band has been inactive for three years. His legacy as one of rock music’s most iconic frontmen will continue to inspire generations of musicians and fans worldwide.
