Ville Valo, who brought HIM to a particular place in the rock scene, has continued his solo career for a while. Maintaining a connection with his fans through his album ‘Neon Noir,’ Valo stated in a recent interview with Igor Miranda that he is trying to protect the legacy of HIM on his solo path.
Valo did not neglect to include HIM tracks in his solo album, where he brought his unique style to the fans with the songs he wrote and composed. While discussing his decision to put the band’s songs to the record during the interview, he pointed out that the pieces were essential to him.
The singer stated that he is not trying to make a complete departure from the band, and his aim is not to do something opposite to HIM. According to him, it is very understandable when an artist musically chooses an entirely different way after their departure. However, he aims to protect HIM’s legacy by adding his ideas to the songs, as he mentioned. He decided from the beginning that in his new path, he would follow a ‘zigzag’ between the old and new songs.
Ville Valo said the following when asked about the old and new songs in his album:
“I thought that was pretty easy in a way that from the very beginning, I thought it’s important to play HIM songs. A lot of the HIM songs, all songs written by me, and I do understand that they are mine and they’re important to me for personal reasons as well. I thought that since I’m not trying to do a full departure, do something completely different.
Then at times when artists, when the band breaks up, they want to do something completely, do a 180 or something, change the genre of music and all that, which is understandable at times. But I didn’t want to. I wanted to logically continue where we left off and sort of like bring my own flourishes and ideas. So from the very beginning, it sounded best to me that we zigzag in between the old and the new.”
While Ville Valo reflects his own style on his album, he also wants to take his band with him on this road. It is obvious that the breezes from his band will always guide him.
