Tom Morello has revealed plans for Ozzy Osbourne’s upcoming farewell show in an interview with WBEZ.
“Heavy metal is the music that made me love music, and Black Sabbath is the band that invented heavy metal,” Morello said. “Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne asked me to be the musical director of the last Black Sabbath show. This final Ozzy Osbourne performance will take place in a soccer stadium just half a block from where Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler grew up. I was honored to accept this role.”
“We currently have 14 bands lined up,” he continued. “The lineup includes Metallica and Guns N’ Roses. We’ve gathered the biggest bands in heavy metal history. The show will run for about 10 hours. It will serve as a tribute to a genre that people worldwide have come to love.”
“This music truly sparked my love for all music,” Morello added. “I now explore many different musical styles. However, metal was the gateway that opened my interest in music.”
The Rage Against the Machine guitarist’s role in this historic event unites multiple generations of rock legends.
Ticketmaster UK has confirmed the event details. The show, titled ‘Back to the Beginning,’ will take place on July 5, 2025, at Villa Park in Birmingham. This venue choice represents a meaningful return to Ozzy’s roots.
Ozzy.com has unveiled an impressive guest performer lineup. The show will feature Billy Corgan, David Draiman, Duff McKagan, and Slash, among other notable artists.
This performance marks a historic milestone. Black Sabbath’s original lineup will reunite on stage for the first time in twenty years.
Loudwire reports that the event has a charitable focus. All profits will support organizations including Cure Parkinson’s and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Villa Park’s location carries special significance. The venue stands just blocks away from the childhood homes of Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler. This setting provides the perfect backdrop for one of heavy metal’s most anticipated events.
