In a new interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton talked about the band’s retirement.
“[Everyone] worked so hard, participating in the design of the production, the setlist and especially, rehearsing,” Hamilton said. “We worked really hard individually and then worked really hard as a band, getting the songs down. By the time we got to those first few shows, we were really at the top of our game.”
Aerosmith’s Peace Out farewell tour with The Black Crowes was meant to celebrate their legacy of over 50 years. However, Steven Tyler’s vocal cord injury unexpectedly changed everything.
Earlier in September, the bassist shared his thoughts on Steven Tyler and his obligatory decision to retire. “I find it hard to believe that we’ll never play again,” he admitted. “I’ve been surprised by things that have happened with this band too many times to think that the future is closed.”
Aerosmith announced in August that they would be ending their touring after Tyler’s on-stage injury, leaving him unable to fully recover. During a show in September 2023, Tyler fractured his larynx while the band was preparing to complete their farewell tour. He managed to finish the show after falling onto a railing early on, but it soon became clear that doing a long tour with a lot of songs wasn’t possible anymore.
The band shared the news on August 2, stating that Tyler’s voice hadn’t fully healed, forcing them to stop performing. Before Tyler’s decision to retire, his bandmate Steve Perry hinted that the frontman might have some new tracks ready. However, unless the vocals for these songs are completed, it’s unlikely Aerosmith will record or release any new material.
