Tim Lambesis recently responded to criticism from As I Lay Dying fans regarding the band’s lineup changes. He addressed the issue in a statement shared on Instagram.

A fan expressed their nostalgia for the band’s former members. This prompted Lambesis to defend the current direction of the group. In his response, the frontman suggested that listeners can explore the previous members’ work through alternative projects if they wish to hear a different sound.

“There are still a couple Wovenwar records if you want to hear what they do without me,” Lambesis said. “Otherwise, if you close your eyes and listen to the new song it’s almost like they didn’t matter nearly as much as everyone thinks they did. I hope you’re able to enjoy the path ahead with us.”

Lambesis’s confidence in the band’s new era is evident in his remarks. He clearly believes that past lineup changes are less significant than many fans perceive. His statement encourages fans to embrace the evolving sound of the band as it moves forward.

Lambesis’s dismissive tone toward former band members comes at a pivotal moment for As I Lay Dying. The band has undergone dramatic changes in recent months. In late 2024, guitarist Phil Sgrosso, drummer Nick Pierce, guitarist Ken Susi, and bassist Ryan Neff all exited the band within days of each other, according to Chaoszine. This exodus led to the cancellation of their planned European tour.

Following the departures, Lambesis reformed As I Lay Dying with a completely new lineup. The new members include Chris Clancy (bass, clean vocals), Bill Hudson (guitar), Don Vedda (guitar), and Tim Yeung (drums). This new lineup has already released a single titled “Echoes,” marking the band’s first new material since the public fallout, as reported by Blabbermouth. The release demonstrates Lambesis’s commitment to moving forward with fresh creative energy.

The reference to Wovenwar in Lambesis’s response is particularly noteworthy. That band was formed by the very members he’s now dismissing. Wovenwar was created by other As I Lay Dying members, including Nick Hipa, Jordan Mancino, Phil Sgrosso, and Josh Gilbert, during Lambesis’s legal issues, according to Loudwire. The band has continued to perform and release music independently of As I Lay Dying.

Despite the recent upheaval and ongoing controversy surrounding Lambesis, As I Lay Dying is set to move forward with touring plans. The band’s resilience and determination to continue performing suggest that Lambesis intends to establish a new chapter for the group. He clearly believes this new era will define the band’s future more than its past.
