Polyphia guitarist Tim Henson has revealed details about the band’s upcoming album. He described it as their heaviest work to date in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Henson discussed the band’s ambitious timeline and creative direction for the new record.

“We wanna be finished by Halloween,” Henson said. “We’ve actually put it in the calendar: ‘Album-finishing-party-slash-Halloween-party’ on the 31st, because we’re gonna get drunk that night. Ideally we finish it then, but who knows?”

The guitarist elaborated on the album’s musical direction and experimental approach.

“This is one of those things where it just might make us both look stupid, because it might not end up being that way,” he continued. “But that’s the goal. Musically, it’s heavy. It’s heavier than anything we’ve ever done. Sonically, it is the most sound-design-heavy thing we’ve ever done.”

Henson also explained the conceptual framework behind the new material.

“At this stage, the concept is very much of creating something that interfaces between consciousness and reality,” he said. “Music that almost induces out-of–body experiences, playing with frequencies that move your cells in a way that physically change the structure of your body by creating sound that affects you in a physical way. We’re playing with sound design in such a way that the frequencies are intended to evoke different states of consciousness.”

This ambitious new direction builds on Polyphia’s established reputation as genre-defying innovators in the progressive music scene.

Viberate reported that Polyphia formed in 2010 in Plano, Texas. The band consists of Tim Henson and Scott LePage on guitars, Clay Gober on bass, and Clay Aeschliman on drums. The band has built their reputation by blending progressive rock, math rock, and guitar virtuoso styles with modern genres such as EDM, hip-hop, and pop.

This genre-defying approach has helped them build a dedicated international fanbase and earned them hundreds of millions of streams worldwide. Wikipedia noted that their innovative sound has positioned them as leaders in the instrumental progressive rock movement. They attract listeners who typically wouldn’t gravitate toward guitar-driven music.

The band’s recent business moves reflect their growing influence in the music industry. Celebrity Access revealed that Polyphia recently signed a global publishing deal with Position Music. Henson called this move “a great new chapter” for the band.

Additionally, Polyphia is set to join System of a Down’s 2025 US and Canada tour as a special guest alongside Korn, Avenged Sevenfold, and Deftones. This high-profile tour placement marks a significant step in broadening their live audience exposure. It demonstrates their crossover appeal in the metal and alternative rock scenes.

The band aims to complete the album by their self-imposed Halloween deadline.
