There have been times when artists despised their own works. Jimmy Page, for instance, hated one particular Led Zeppelin song so much that he couldn’t stand performing it.

So, it might not be so much of a shock to hear that Rivers Cuomo despised one Weezer album so much that he regretted releasing it and called it ‘hideous.’

Well, Cuomo was talking with Entertainment Weekly in 2001 when he revealed the Weezer record he despised and explained why he couldn’t stand that particular work of his band. Which album was it you might ask? It was 1996’s ‘Pinkerton.’

The frontman seemed even a bit furious while talking about the record, as he explained why he regretted it:

“[‘Pinkerton’ is a] hideous record. It was such a hugely painful mistake that happened in front of hundreds of thousands of people and continues to happen on a grander and grander scale and just won’t go away.”

He then likened the record to a ‘drunk mistake:’

“It’s like getting really drunk at a party and spilling your guts in front of everyone and feeling incredibly great and cathartic about it, and then waking up the next morning and realizing what a complete fool you made of yourself…”

Weezer’s next performance will take place at Choctaw Grand Theatre in Durant, OK on December 29. Although Cuomo hates ‘Pinkerton’ dearly, the band still performs different songs from the album as well.
