AC/DC’s legendary ‘Back in Black’ has just received two new certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America. It is now the third best-selling album of all time in the US.
The 1980 album was first certified 26-times platinum on July 8th, and then it went up to 27-times platinum just a few days ago on August 21st. This latest certification has moved it ahead of the Eagles’ ‘Hotel California’ on the list of top-selling albums in the US.
AC/DC beat ‘Hotel California,’ but The Eagles’ greatest hits collection ‘Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975)’ is still at the top of the list with 38 million copies sold. Michael Jackson’s Thriller is No. 2 with 34 million copies.
Worldwide, ‘Back in Black’ is No. 2 with about 50 million copies sold, just behind ‘Thriller.’ It has an estimated 70 million units.
‘Back in Black’ is now available as a limited-edition gold vinyl to celebrate AC/DC’s 50th anniversary.
AC/DC just wrapped up a comeback tour in the UK and Europe, their first in eight years. As of now, they don’t have any more tour dates planned.
