CKY bassist Mike Leon announced his departure from the band citing toxicity and unprofessionalism. The band’s frontman Chad I Ginsburg responded with his own version of events in a statement shared on Instagram.

Leon’s statement addressed the circumstances surrounding his exit from the band and the internal issues he experienced during his time with CKY.

“Hey everyone, I want to let you know that my time with CKY has come to an end,” Leon said. “Growing up, I was a huge fan of the band, and getting the opportunity to play with them was a dream come true. I genuinely enjoyed my time there, and it was fun… until it wasn’t.”

Leon went on to explain his decision to leave the band and the challenges he faced.

“For full transparency, I will not be participating in the band’s upcoming shows,” he continued. “As unfortunate as this is, given the circumstances, I believe this was the right move to make. The differences regarding logistics and business decisions, primarily driven by the actions of the band’s leader, created internal issues that made an already stressful environment increasingly difficult to work in.”

The bassist also reflected on warning signs he had overlooked when joining the band.

“This unprofessionalism and lack of accountability was known well before I joined, and persisted throughout my time with the band, making day-to-day operations a constant challenge,” Leon said. “The love I had for the band blinded me to the red flags my peers and the band’s previous history had warned me about, especially surrounding the frontman, yet I chose to believe things would be different.”

CKY frontman Chad I Ginsburg responded with a contrasting account of Leon’s departure from the band.

“I don’t know what Mike Leon is talking about in his post,” Ginsburg said. “However, I do know the facts and the facts are, Mike, and you know them too, is that we fired you last night because you hate dogs and you didn’t want to tour with the dogs and you wanted more money and you weren’t happy with anything ever. So unfortunately it’s not working out, Mike. But what you wrote is fucking crazy, dude. Like, prove any of that fucking shit.”

The conflicting statements highlight the dispute between the former bandmates regarding the circumstances of Leon’s departure from CKY.

Leon’s exit adds another chapter to CKY’s long history of lineup changes and internal conflicts that have plagued the band throughout its career.

Vice reported that CKY was originally formed in 1998 by Ginsburg, Jess Margera, and former frontman Deron Miller. The band has experienced numerous personnel changes over the years. Various members have cited similar issues regarding the band’s internal dynamics.

Leon had joined CKY relatively recently, making his tenure with the group brief but tumultuous. Chaoszine noted that the bassist’s departure comes at a time when the band was preparing for upcoming tour dates. This leaves fans uncertain about the future of these scheduled performances.

The public nature of this dispute reflects a pattern of conflicts that have characterized CKY’s history. Leon’s allegations of unprofessionalism and toxic behavior echo complaints made by former band members in the past. This suggests that internal issues within the group may be systemic rather than isolated incidents.

The band’s reputation for internal strife has been well-documented over the years. Multiple former members have spoken out about similar experiences. Leon’s statement specifically mentioned that he was warned about these issues before joining. This indicates that CKY’s internal problems are widely known within the music industry.
