Sting released his 14th album ‘My Songs,’ which were a collection of new renditions of his old released songs from his catalog, in 2019. The rocker has been touring Europe this summer for his ‘My Songs World Tour.’
Recently, the singer shared a behind-the-scenes clip of his show in Rome on Twitter. The rocker explained what his strategy has been in reusing his old tracks. He said:
“Some songs will go through periods where they’re not quite working. So I drop them for a while, and then I come back to them after a month or two, and they suddenly got life. But like organic things, they are living, breathing things.”
Sting also explained that because he sees songs as living beings, it’s up to him to give them that life. He added:
“They need rest sometimes, they need a push sometimes. They have to be filled with spirit, that’s my job.”
So following his European summer dates Sting is bringing the tour to North America starting September 1st in Vienna, Virginia. The dates will continue through Canada and the U.S., before wrapping up on Oct. 12th in Rogers, Arkansas. The singer will be on the road with his son Joe Sumner as the opening act.
Considering Sting’s current schedule with the tour and his upcoming dates this fall, when asked by USA Today in 2021 whether he had any retirement plans the rocker had said:
“You’re asking a fish what it’s going to be like without water. I can’t imagine life without working onstage. I love it.”
