Fans attending Bruce Springsteen’s recent Dallas show with the E Street Band must have noticed that three members, including Stevie Van Zandt, were missing. After the show, many of them took to Twitter to ask the guitarist the reason. In a series of tweets, he revealed why he was absent during the concert.
Bruce Springsteen first announced a tour with E Street Band in 2019, but the coronavirus pandemic got in and put the plans on the shelf. However, he is now back on the road with the band for their first shows since 2017. The highly-anticipated tour kicked off on February 1, but after three dates, fans were greeted with an unpleasant surprise.
During the Dallas concert on February 10, Stevie Van Zandt, Soozie Tyrel, and Springsteen’s wife, Patti Scialfa, were nowhere to be seen. After the band’s 27-song setlist, fans started wondering why the three members had missed the show. Then, some of Van Zandt’s fans took to Twitter to ask the guitarist what was wrong.
Stevie Van Zandt responded to one of them and said the reason he was absent was his diagnosis of COVID-19. In his following tweet, Stevie thanked his fans and hoped for a quick recovery to perform for the next shows in Houston or Austin. Following that, the guitarist said he was vaccinated and boosted, and that’s why his symptoms are mild.
Responding to a fan who asked why he was absent, Stevie Van Zandt tweeted:
“Sorry, folks. Covid.”
Van Zandt then addressed all of his fans in his next tweet:
“Thank you all for your best wishes and positive vibes. I’ve got a very mild case and hope to be back for Houston or Austin at the latest.”
Asked if he was vaccinated, the guitarist said:
“Totally. And boosted. That’s why it’s a mild case. No real danger or damage.”
Like Stevie Van Zandt, Soozie Tyler also tested positive for COVID-19. The guitarist says his case is very mild, so he hopes to recover and meet the fans again on the shows in Houston on February 14 or in Austin on February 16.
