While discussing the early days of his career in his memoir, ‘Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?’ Steven Tyler recalled a particular relationship that was odd enough to stand out from his many others. The singer had written about an underage’ girlfriend-to-be’ and how her parents had signed custody over to him so the young girl could freely travel with him.
Well, anyone might feel uneasy upon seeing the word ‘underage,’ and it seemed that the ‘girlfriend-to-be’ in question, Julia Holcolmb [now Misley], is determined to make things right by her account. So, you might be familiar with the story of their controversial relationship since Steven never hid it as a secret. It resurfaced with the recent lawsuit filed by Julia’s legal team.
Still, to summarize what had happened, in the early to mid-70s, the singer and the underage teen Julia were in a relationship that lasted for three years. To no one’s surprise, Julia didn’t have fond memories of Steven, claiming the frontman had taken advantage of her naivety and manipulated her into this relationship with a promise of a ‘romantic relationship.’
Then when then-teenager Julia got pregnant, she claimed that Tyler again manipulated her into having an abortion which inflicted emotional distress on her. So, as these have been the statements coming from Julia’s team, they filed a lawsuit on the charges of sexual assault, sexual battery, and intentionally inflicting emotional distress under the provisions of the California Child Victims Act.
However, when the lawsuit was filed, Steven Tyler wasn’t explicitly named in the lawsuit. However, now that the case has been officially taken upon the courts, the Aerosmith icon is formally identified as a defendant. So, this might mean that Steven and his team have legally challenging times ahead of them.
Tyler or a spokesperson hasn’t commented on these accusations and the lawsuit. However, Aerosmith’s cancellation of the remaining dates of their Las Vegas residency due to the singer’s health problems and possible check into rehab will make this even more challenging.
