Slipknot’s Shawn ‘Clown’ Crahan recently discussed the possibility of performing songs from the band’s ‘Look Outside Your Window’ album live. He shared his thoughts in an interview with Rolling Stone.

The musician addressed whether the band would consider bringing the ‘Look Outside Your Window’ material to live performances. He revealed his openness to the idea under certain circumstances.

“We as a unit of four people, at least some of us, had always said that there would be no reason we couldn’t play this live,” Crahan said. “Someone would have to play bass if we were playing live; Jim’s not going to play bass and guitar at the same time.”

Crahan explained his vision for potential live performances of the material. He emphasized the need for proper preparation and audience demand.

“So what will be fun for me is getting a real intricate band together to give it to people if they ever actually request it,” he continued. “It could very well be one, two, three special shows. I’m going to wait until someone calls me and goes, ‘Today’s the day, we have a demand.'”

Slipknot finally released their long-awaited ‘Look Outside Your Window’ album. Crahan indicated that live performances would depend on fan interest and logistical considerations.

The ‘Look Outside Your Window’ project has a fascinating backstory that spans nearly two decades. Blunt Magazine reported that the album was recorded in 2008 during downtime while Slipknot were working on their ‘All Hope Is Gone’ sessions. The project features Corey Taylor, Jim Root, Sid Wilson, and Crahan experimenting freely outside the constraints of their main band.

The album’s unique sound sets it apart from Slipknot’s typical heavy metal approach. The material leans toward psychedelic and melodic territories. This creates a distinct sonic landscape that differs significantly from the band’s signature style. This departure from their established sound contributed to the decision to shelve the project as a standalone release rather than incorporating it into Slipknot’s main catalog.

The lengthy delay between recording and release became one of metal’s most talked-about mysteries. For nearly 18 years, fans speculated about when or if the material would ever see the light of day. Metal Injection confirmed that the mythical side project from the four band members was finally set for release in 2026. It arrived on vinyl for Record Store Day.

The project’s eventual release represents more than just unreleased material hitting the market. It showcases a different creative side of these musicians. This demonstrates their willingness to explore musical territories beyond their established brand. The experimental nature of the recordings reflects the artistic freedom the four members allowed themselves during those 2008 sessions. They created something entirely separate from their main band’s identity.
