Although Bob Dylan has always seemed to wish to distance his dating life from the public, he nonetheless had romances that reportedly made him ‘forget who he was.’

However, in the case of Dolly Parton, Dylan seemed determined to maintain his distance from the country star, as he’d even rejected her offer to collaborate in 2005.

On the other hand, Parton seemed to have a theory for Dylan’s distance against her, as she discussed her relationship with the ‘Blowin’ In The Wind’ singer in 2014 while chatting with Daily Mail. She said:

“I’ve met him a few times, but I never felt any warmth from him to me. I think I have offended him somehow by the way I looked or the way I was.”

She then discussed her theory regarding the possible reason behind Bob’s cold shoulder:

“I love his music, but he’s a weird buckaroo. I don’t feel like we ever connected. Maybe he just thought I was too phoney, or he didn’t get to know me too well.”

Still, Dolly was a fan and she nonetheless continued her words by praising the folk icon:

“His mind is so deep, but his melodies are so good. They lend themselves so well to harmonies. I’ve even thought about making an album called ‘Dolly Does Dylan,’ but I think that sounds too close to ‘Debbie Does Dallas.’

Five years after that interview, the country singer was chatting with another magazine, MacLeans, in 2019, and the host had an odd question regarding Dolly’s cover of Dylan’s ‘Don’t Think Twice.’

The said question was about whether Dolly’s sentimental ‘approach’ to the song was because she’d had a fling with the folk singer. Dolly answered:

“It does sound like I dated and dumped him! I’m going to use that in my next stage show! No, me and Bob didn’t date, but I always say I’m going to do a whole album of Bob Dylan songs called ‘Dolly Does Dylan.'”

Dolly theorized that, maybe, Dylan had been maintaining his distance because he thought of her to be a ‘phony.’ However, there were others who believed the same about Bob, as you can check out here to read all about why fellow folk icon Joni Mitchell thought Dylan wasn’t authentic.
