Sick of It All frontman Lou Koller has announced that his cancer has returned. He shared the difficult news in a video posted on Instagram by his brother Pete.

Koller addressed his ongoing health struggles and recovery challenges in the update.

“Hey, everybody. What’s up? It’s Lou here. I don’t know if you could tell it’s me, with my new skeletal look that I have going on,” Koller said. “Here’s an update for you. It’s not what I wanna make, but, unfortunately, the cancer’s come back and he brought some friends with him.”

The vocalist explained the circumstances that led to the discovery of the cancer’s return.

“I was having a really hard time with my recovery. I was having a tough time gaining weight and keeping food down,” he continued. “So I had some scans done, and sure enough, he is back. But we’re gonna take it day by day and see what happens.”

Koller expressed gratitude for the continued support from fans and the music community.

“I wanna thank you all again for your moral support. The way you all reach out to me still is very — thank you very much,” he said. “But I’ll keep you updated and let you know how it goes. All right? We’ll see you soon.”

The hardcore punk community has rallied around Koller once again. Fellow musicians and fans have expressed their support through social media. Metal vocalist Doro Pesch commented on the Instagram post, saying “Lots of love and strength to you Lou! We all support you! We all love you!” Exodus guitarist Gary Holt added “Much strength his way.”

Pete Koller noted in the post caption that his brother’s GoFundMe remains active for those wishing to support Lou during this challenging time.

This latest development marks a significant setback in Koller’s cancer journey. The journey began earlier this year and had shown promising signs of recovery.

Parade reported that Lou was first diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the esophagus in June 2024. The diagnosis forced the New York hardcore punk band to pause all projects. They also canceled their European tour dates that were originally scheduled for July 2024.

The financial burden of cancer treatment prompted the creation of a GoFundMe campaign that has received overwhelming support from the music community. Consequence of Sound noted that the fundraising effort has raised over $330,000. Notable contributions came from prominent bands including Rancid, Dropkick Murphys, and AFI, each donating $5,000 to support Koller’s medical expenses.

After months of intensive treatment and chemotherapy, Koller had announced in May 2025 that he was officially cancer-free. He expressed eagerness to resume band activities. Louder Sound highlighted that this positive update had given hope to fans and the hardcore punk community. The recent news of the cancer’s return makes this development particularly devastating.
