Sebastian Bach walked out of an interview after a host made a joke at Rob Halford’s expense. The story took a humorous turn when Halford himself weighed in, as reported by The SDR Show.
The SDR Show hosts revealed footage of how their comment about Judas Priest singer Rob Halford annoyed Sebastian Bach and led him to leave the interview. They also shared how Halford reacted to the whole incident in a separate interview.
The incident began when the show host made a crude joke directed at Halford.
“Rob Halford’s vocal exercise is probably something gay and he doesn’t want to tell you,” the host said. “Because you got to gargle jizz, but he’s like, ‘I don’t know how to tell you that, Sebastian.'”
Bach, clearly uncomfortable with the remark, pushed back before exiting the interview.
“Could you not wreck this interview? Like, seriously,” Bach said. “Like Rob Halford’s a friend of mine. So spare the comments because I’m not posting that. That’s for sure.”
Bach then left the interview. When Halford was asked about the incident separately, he responded with characteristic humor, first recounting a recent interaction with Bach.
“Let me say three things. Three things,” Halford said. “I did a Zoom with Sebastian the other day and it was typical Sebastian. He couldn’t get the zoom to work. And he had that thing where you put your face right up against the camera and you’re looking up his nostril and he’s screaming at his wife and he’s screaming at his kids and it’s completing at a pandemonium and we’re trying to make it connect and it did connect. We had a great conversation because I’ve known him forever and he is a terrific guy. He’s so much fun.”
Halford then addressed the joke itself — and the roast comment — with equal levity.
“The second thing is, I don’t go gargle, I swallow,” Halford said, laughing. “And the third thing is I’ve always wanted to be roasted. I’ve always wanted to be roasted at a comic roast.”
The exchange highlights the longstanding friendship between the two rock icons. Halford took the joke in stride despite Bach’s strong objection during the original interview.
The incident quickly gained wider attention, sparking a broader conversation about the line between edgy comedy and outright disrespect — particularly when it targets a musician’s sexuality. What made the story resonate further was the contrast between Bach’s immediate, principled reaction and Halford’s disarmingly lighthearted response.
As Metal Sucks reported, the offending joke was delivered by comedian Big Jay Oakerson, who made the crude remark while Bach was in the middle of discussing vocal warm-up routines. Bach had mentioned that Halford once told him he never needs to do vocal exercises, which prompted Oakerson’s unsolicited and explicit punchline. Bach condemned the comment on the spot before ending the interview entirely.
Metal Injection noted that Halford had already been booked to appear on The SDR Show the following week at the time of Bach’s walkout. Rather than avoiding the subject, Halford addressed the situation directly when he came on. He chose humor over confrontation and defused any lingering tension with ease.
Halford’s response was widely praised for its wit and self-assurance. Metal Injection highlighted his playful “I don’t gargle, I swallow” quip, paired with his expressed desire to be roasted. It signaled that he was entirely unbothered — and perhaps even amused — by the whole affair.
The episode ultimately painted a picture of two veterans of rock who came out of it with their friendship and reputations intact, despite the awkward circumstances. Bach’s instinct to defend his friend, and Halford’s ability to laugh at himself, turned what could have been a controversy into a moment that fans and commentators found both refreshing and entertaining.
