Technology has come a long way, and music production also got its share of technological advancements. In his recent tweets, Sebastian Bach touched upon these technological changes in music production and revealed whether Skid Row used Pro Tools during the recordings of their ‘Slave To The Grind’ album.

Sebastian Bach recently came across Behemoth’s Nergal’s remarks about contemporary metal albums. According to Nergal, today’s metal records sound robotic, using Pro Tools rather than creating an organic sound. “99% of producers nowadays don’t know Robert Ludwig,” Bach tweeted after reading Nergal’s statements.

After that, one of his fans asked whether Skid Row had used Pro Tools while making their 1991 hit album ‘Slave To The Grind.’ “Considering they were not invented at that time, the answer would be no,” said Sebastian Bach, revealing Pro Tools didn’t exist when they were working on this album.

The producer Sebastian Bach mentioned, Robert Ludwig, is an award-winner mastering engineer who has mastered recordings by many major classic artists, such as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, and Metallica. According to Bach, almost any record producer now knows about his works.

Nowadays, the music industry encourages the use of Pro Tools to improve artists’ songs in a shorter time. Thus, their use is supported by labels, producers, and musicians. However, Nergal believes this prevents the creation of an organic, old-school sound. Skid Row couldn’t use Pro Tools on their ‘Slave To The Grind’ album, but it seems like Bach is on the same page with Nergal.
