In an interview with Rolling Stone, Scott Weiland’s son, Noah Weiland, recently opened up about his upbringing. He clarified a misunderstanding about his financial inheritance, explaining that he didn’t receive much from his father, as the Stone Temple Pilots frontman was heavily in debt when he passed away:
“I’m not a trust fund baby or anything like that; I always get annoyed when people say that type of stuff. My dad was millions in debt when he died. My mom has always worked a normal job. And truthfully, even if my dad’s estate ever does get out of debt, I don’t even want that money. I want to make a career out of myself as much as possible.”
Reports show that Scott Weiland faced significant financial challenges in his last days. According to a 2019 article by The Blast, the IRS filed a tax lien against Weiland for unpaid federal income taxes from 2012 to 2014, reaching nearly a million dollars.
Additionally, Scott’s ex-wife, Jamie Weiland, confirmed that he had an ‘enormous amount of debt’ at the time of his death.
Father And Son Had Similar Experiences In Their Careers

Scott Weiland’s financial issues were often linked to his struggle with addiction. This aspect of his life was brought into focus again when Noah faced similar struggles after getting fired from his band with London Hudson and Tye Trujillo.
While claiming not to have addiction problems at the time of his dismissal from Suspect208, unlike what his ex-bandmates said, Noah explained that his experience with drugs helped him understand his father’s situation. He told Rolling Stone:
“It made me realize it wasn’t his fault. He was just in too deep. He had too many demons. They caught up to him. It actually made me forgive him.”
Noah’s Not Happy To Be Likened To The Late Singer

Despite these words, Noah expressed distaste over comparisons between him and his father, especially when it came to addiction. Such comments increased after he left Suspect208, and his issues with drugs started to make the headlines.
Talking about this matter during a chat with iHeartRadio, he said:
“People want to see me be a statistic so bad, I feel like. There were so many posts when the band ended, and all the comments were, ‘Oh, just like his dad, just like his dad.'”
The singer’s drug use got worse after his time with the band, but he returned to the music scene with a solo EP last year. In 2023, he released two singles, ‘Good Riddance & Goodbye’ and ‘Yesterday.’
