Scorpions Guitarist Rudolf Schenker: ‘Rock Never Dies’
In a recent interview with Goldmine Magazine, Scorpions guitarist Rudolf Schenker shared his thoughts about their approach to rock music as a band.
After Gene Simmons claimed that rock music was dead during an interview with Esquire in 2014, many artists stood up against the claims, including the Scorpions. The band also believes they showed their stance against that claim with their latest album, ‘Rock Believer,’ released on February 22, 2022.
The band has been actively putting out music for over 50 years for their fans. Scorpions have believed in rock as a genre since 1965, when they started. They are determined that many new rock believers are here to stay and support the genre’s artists, which is why many musicians continue making music.
Rudolf Schenker recently stated that they believe in rock music, so people claiming it is dead is nonsense for him. According to Schenker, rock as a genre will never die. The foundations that iconic bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, the Beatles, and Rolling Stones have built will continue for generations. He acknowledged that other rock bands are not equal to these legends, but rock music is still very much alive.
Schenker’s words about the current state of rock music:
“Yeah, here we are, rock believers! People are telling us rock is dead — no, it’s not. Rock never dies, and it all comes from the foundation; bands like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Beatles, and Rolling Stones — there’s the foundation. Nobody can take that away from them. Everything else is a copy, a nice copy (laughs), but not as strong as the originals.”
