Sammy Hagar talked to KKLZ’s The Mike & Carla Morning Show, during which he argued that David Lee Roth has always been in competition with him.

As you know, Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth have been at odds for a pretty long time. In 1985, Hagar replaced Roth in Van Halen, which became a starting point of the long-lasting feud between the rock icons.

According to Hagar, he tried hard to be friends with DLR at first. However, things did not turn out that way. The Red Rocker started to avoid Roth during performances, and there was great tension between the two.

Besides, both musicians have aimed at each other several times with the statements they issued. During one of his interviews, Hagar targeted Roth by saying he cannot sing well anymore, while Roth attacked him with a cartoon he posted on his Twitter.

In a more recent interview, Hagar stated that he is still not a fan of David Lee Roth and admitted that he is a strange person. While speaking to The Mike & Carla Morning Show, he once again talked about Roth and claimed that he is always competing with him.

In fact, there wasn’t even a feud between them, according to Hagar. He stated during the show that there is nothing to forgive as he has no problem with Roth. Moreover, the musician added that DLR claimed he was Van Halen, which was why he felt competitive.

Sammy Hagar told KKLZ’s The Mike & Carla Morning Show about the feud between him and David Lee Roth:

“No, there’s no forgiveness even necessary there because there’s nothing to forgive. He and I don’t even have a feud, to be honest with you. I have no problem with David. He’s a quirky guy.

I don’t know what he’s got going with me, but I think he always feels competitive. He feels like he has to raise his flag, like ‘I’m Van Halen!’ I had a solo career before Van Halen.

I was in Montrose before Van Halen. I’ve had Chickenfoot. Dave’s got Van Halen, you know, so I think he had to hold onto that kind of tight, but I don’t care about that. If someone said, ‘I never knew you were in Van Halen,’ so what!”
