Sammy Hagar Says He’s Still Not A Fan Of David Lee Roth

Sammy Hagar discussed the current relationship between him and David Lee Roth in an interview on Lipps Service with Scott Lipps. As it seems, he is still not a fan of Diamond Dave.

Sammy Hagar and David Lee Roth have been at odds ever since Hagar replaced Roth in Van Halen back in 1985. In his previous statements, Hagar has claimed that Roth is a self-obsessed person on stage, and he does not want to perform with him due to that. Following that, Diamond Dave went on to post a cartoon on his Twitter which targeted Hagar. Back in August, Hagar once again aimed at Roth and said he doesn’t sing well anymore.

In a previous interview, Hagar had talked about the Kitchen Sink Tour that Van Halen planned to do before their disbandment. Although it never took place, the Circle frontman stated that he already had a backup plan to avoid seeing Roth during the tour. He had planned it all because it would turn into a disaster if the two bumped into each other on stage.

Most Van Halen fans know that the feud between them is a long-lasting one. Both musicians didn’t aim at each other for a long time, and the Red Rocker left the door open for performing with him in the future. However, according to the recent interview on Lipps Service, it seems Hagar still has something to say about David Lee Roth.

In the interview, Scott Lipps asked Sammy Hagar about the early Van Halen records. The musician said that he loves Eddie’s guitar sound and Alex’s drumming, but he is still not a fan of David Lee Roth. He then stated that he just can’t get down with him.

Following that, Lipps told him he has interviewed Roth before and described him as strange. Sammy then said he is not sure Roth knows what’s going on, and he can’t understand him as he is a strange person.

Asked if he is a fan of the early Van Halen records, Sammy Hagar told Lipps Service that:

“Hell yeah. I’m a fan of Eddie’s guitar sound, Alex’s drumming, and his background voice. I’m still not a fan of the Super Dave. I just can’t get down with Dave for some reason.”

After Scott Lipps told him he has interviewed Roth before and he acted strangely, Hagar added:

“I’m not sure he knows what’s going on, but I’m not here to dog him. He is like Ronnie, I can’t understand the guy. I’ve been around him, talked to him, tried to be friends. He’s just a strange dude.

As it appears, Sammy Hagar tried to be friends with David Lee Roth in the past, but they didn’t end up so. Hagar’s statements were not that harsh as his previous ones, so there is still a light of hope that the pair might bury the hatchet in the future.
