Robert Plant recently joined an interview with Empire magazine and explained why he’d fake being sick to skip Led Zeppelin rehearsals.

“I was always with it – the whole idea of coming to Molineux on a cloudy, misty Tuesday night, when the South Bank was just an absolute miasma or cigarette smoke with a fantastic atmosphere and chant,” the singer replied when asked if he attended many Wolverhampton Wanderers games while the band was famous.

Plant further recalled his memories from the games, “It was such a far cry from what I’d been involved with on tour. I could get lost in the euphoria, the pain, or the bliss.”

“On a Tuesday afternoon, I would be recording with Led Zeppelin and suddenly get a sore throat to be away for a night game,” the rocker admitted faking illness.

Plant has a big passion for Wolverhampton Wanderers. He first went to their stadium with his father when he was 5 and has been a fan ever since. Plant was named Vice President of the club in 2009 and became a patron of their charity this year.

The team often plays Led Zeppelin songs like ‘Stairway to Heaven’ before games to hype up the crowd. Plant also worked with producer Gavin Monaghan to make a special mix of ‘Whole Lotta Love’ and ‘Kashmir’ for the team to use at Molineux Stadium.

“Having Robert as a member of the old gold pack is incredibly special, and having now used ‘Kashmir’ for more than a year at Molineux, Robert was keen to help us move the sound on by mixing two of Led Zeppelin’s most iconic tracks,” Wolves’ marketing manager Russell Jones said at the time.

He added, “We’d like to thank both Robert and Gavin for their support and I hope that the new mix will get the stadium rocking ahead of the last game of the season.”

Plant completed his US tour with Alison Krauss on September 1. Their joint tour included stops in Seattle, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and Colorado Springs, Colorado.
