King Crimson founder Robert Fripp revealed his recent health scare in a new video shared on Toyah & Robert’s YouTube channel.
The video details Fripp’s unexpected medical emergency during a trip to Italy. He initially mistook the serious symptoms for acid reflux.
“On Saturday, Apr. 6, I flew to Italy. I’d been suffering what I considered to be acid reflux for a couple of weeks before. I was in A&E thinking, ‘Oh, they’re going to give me a prescription for acid reflux,'” Fripp explained.
Doctors discovered the severity of his condition after examining his test results.
“[The doctor told me], ‘You’re supposed to have 10 of these but you’ve got 500 of them,'” he continued, referring to troponin levels, which can indicate a heart attack.
Drawing from his experience, Fripp offered advice to others: “I’m a very happy fortunate man. If you think you have heartburn or acid reflux, really look into it – it might be something more.”
The musician underwent two emergency surgeries. He is currently recovering.
The health scare occurred during Fripp’s ongoing influential presence in the progressive rock scene. His active career spans over five decades.
Biographical sources reveal that Fripp formed King Crimson in 1968. He established himself as one of progressive rock’s most innovative guitarists. The band transformed significantly when Fripp reformed it in 1981. He incorporated diverse musical elements, including Indonesian gamelan and new wave influences.
Produce Like A Pro documented Fripp’s extensive musical collaborations. He worked with legendary artists such as David Bowie and Peter Gabriel. These partnerships strengthened his position in the rock music landscape.
More Dark Than Shark highlighted Fripp’s dedication to musical preservation. He releases numerous archival live recordings through his own label, Discipline Global Mobile. This effort demonstrates his commitment to documenting and preserving music.
