Mudvayne and HELLYEAH vocalist Chad Gray recently shared an update with fans about his upcoming knee surgery. He revealed details about an injury he sustained during a tour in a video posted on Instagram.

Gray explained how he injured his MCL during a performance. He had to continue touring with leg braces before deciding to undergo surgery.

“So here I am. So the first day of the last tour, I tore my MCL on stage, and then I had to wear three leg braces, knee braces, or whatever for the whole tour,” Gray said. “And uh, so yeah, I’m getting surgery today, which is super cool. I’m trying to hope that I can get everything done and all buttoned up before my show on the 24th.”

Gray also reached out to fans for support during his recovery process.

“Happy knee surgery day everyone! Wish me luck, good vibes, prayers what ever you do – send it my way! Love you all,” he continued. “I hope I get to keep this badass hat!! Be well-MC!”

Gray’s determination to recover quickly stems from his commitment to an upcoming milestone performance that holds special significance for his career.

The show Gray is hoping to make on the 24th is part of his “30 Years of Madness” solo tour. This tour celebrates three decades in heavy metal since he began his career in 1996. Metal Injection reported that this solo run represents a celebration of chaos, riffs, and community that has defined Gray’s journey through the metal scene.

The tour has proven to be highly successful. Gray recently expanded his spring 2026 dates due to overwhelming fan response. Metal Insider noted that Gray announced three additional spring 2026 dates for his “30 Years of Madness” solo run following a now sold-out initial event. This demonstrates the strong connection he maintains with his fanbase.

Gray’s career spans multiple influential bands in the heavy metal genre. His vocals have helped shape modern metal through both Mudvayne and HELLYEAH. Epic Event Center highlighted that his journey from the raw, genre-shifting power of Mudvayne to the relentless groove and grit of HELLYEAH has established him as a significant figure in contemporary metal music.

The timing of Gray’s surgery reflects his dedication to his craft. He sustained the MCL injury in late 2025 during what would be one of his final tour performances before taking this brief hiatus for the solo shows. His willingness to perform through the pain with multiple leg braces demonstrates the commitment that has characterized his three-decade career in heavy music.
