Matt Sorum Pays Tribute To Scott Weiland On The Anniversary Of His Passing

Family is family at the end of the day, even if you don’t get along perfectly and don’t see eye to eye on most things. When Scott Weiland passed away in 2015 from an accidental overdose, the news was much more heartwrenching than Matt Sorum thought he would ever feel because they didn’t have the best relationship, but you can’t rip off your arm, right? Sorum took to his official Instagram account to remember Weiland seven years after his tragic passing.

“Remembering Scott Weiland today,” wrote Sorum to honor his former Velvet Revolver bandmate. “It’s been seven years, and I wish you were here.” The band had started on the right foot with former Guns N’ Roses members Duff McKagan and Slash and by adding Stone Temple Pilots’ Scott Weiland. It was a force to be reckoned with, and their debut album ‘Contraband’ showed that by going triple platinum and winning a Grammy.

Even though the two didn’t have the best relationship over the years in the band and many conflicts eventually pushed them to go their separate ways, it is impossible to erase their good times and the love they had for each other. Sorum continued, “Thank you for the music and the moments of greatness we shared. I think of you often and always from the heart. Rest in peace, Scott Weiland.”

The ship crumbled quite quickly after the massive success of their debut album. Before they knew it, everyone was back to their bad habits, including Weiland, who had a history of drug addiction and chronic tardiness. By the end, in 2008, the band decided to split, but the band members weren’t holding back their harsh opinions about each other. The good thing was Sorum had the chance to hash it out before Weiland’s tragic passing that shook him to his core.
