Richie Sambora was notably absent from Jon Bon Jovi’s 2024 MusiCares Person of the Year ceremony on Friday, and the reason was significant—his mother.

A source claimed that Sambora’s 89-year-old mother had a mishap after tripping on a carpet, resulting in a broken hip last week. The musician has dedicated himself to caring for her in their home state of New Jersey.

The source revealed of Sambora’s mother:

“She’s been in rehab and recovering, and he went through the whole house and renovated it. He bought her smaller furniture to make it easier for her. She didn’t want to stay in the hospital, so he got her 24-hour care. He’s an only child and a devoted son. They’re first-generation immigrants, so family is very important to him.”

Jon Bon Jovi’s Contributions And Performance

During the ceremony, Bon Jovi, 61, received recognition for his philanthropic work with the JBJ Soul Foundation, in addition to his notable contributions to music. A special ceremony and tribute concert were held in his honor at the Los Angeles Convention Center in anticipation of the upcoming Grammy Awards scheduled for February 4.

Before any admirers could step on stage, Bon Jovi took to the stage to perform the band’s new single, ‘Legendary.’ A surprise performer joined the band: Bruce Springsteen. The two shared the stage to sing ‘Who Says You Can’t Go Home,’ and ‘The Promised Land.’
