In a recent episode of the ‘Everblack’ podcast, Richard Patrick shared insights into his relationship with his brother, actor Robert Patrick. He highlighted that their differing religious beliefs and political opinions have created a gap between them:
“So I don’t believe in religion. I am. And he does, like extensively. And so, we just can’t talk. We just can’t talk about it.”
Richard, who identified as a ‘leftist, left-leaning, moderate Democrat,’ contrasted this with his brother’s support for Donald Trump:
“I love my brother. I wish him well, but I understand what [Donald] Trump is. I see him for exactly what he is. He’s a con man. He’s been indicted four times. He breaks the law every time he does anything.”
Robert’s On Trump’s Side Despite Breaking The Law

In September, a New York judge ruled that the former US President and his company ‘repeatedly’ violated state fraud law. Referring to that, the Filter frontman went on:
“He broke the law in New York. That’s why his businesses are being shut down because they were, because he committed fraud and, exaggerated on all what his business really is, and conned people out of millions of dollars. I see him for what he is — he’s a con man.”
His brother didn’t agree with him, though:
“And my brother’s not with me on that. He doesn’t get it. He’s kind of a Trump guy. And so, sadly, we don’t see eye to eye anymore. And I love him, but it is weird.”
The Two Have Had Opposing Views For Years

Robert Patrick has openly supported Donald Trump since the 2016 elections, taking part in the Rolling To Remember event in 2020 and expressing it as an honor on X. In contrast, Richard’s anti-Trump stance caused a Filter concert to get canceled in 2019.
At the time, the singer mentioned that the venue in El Paso was uncomfortable with his Facebook post about the then-President and had received threatening calls. The venue also objected to the band’s plan to display the American flag upside down during their show, stating it was illegal.
