Justin Hawkins recently shared a new review on YouTube, discussing Avenged Sevenfold‘s latest hit, ‘Nobody,’ and detailed how frontman M. Shadows had the perfect rock voice in the likeness of the late Chris Cornell.
After seven years of a musical hiatus, the cult metal act recently made a comeback, releasing the chart-topping ‘Nobody’ and making it clear to their audience that they haven’t lost their creative touch. So, with this new release, the Darkness frontman couldn’t help but review the new single as it’s become a tradition on his YouTube channel.
Justin, we might guess, expected to hear a rough metal sound when he first started listening, but he was welcomed by different melodic instrumental arrangements complimenting the raw, hard-rock-oriented guitar riffs. He then discussed how much of a pleasant surprise that was, making it clear that he enjoyed every bit of the single.
Hawkins then noted how Shadows had the proper rock vocals, carrying the tune with his Cornell-like voice, adding a great element to the catchy melody. The rocker finished off by saying that he loved the act’s newest release, appreciating them for the brilliant arrangement along with its impressive instrumental and vocal sound.
The Darkness singer on ‘Nobody,’ Shadows’ proper rock voice and enjoying every second of the six-minute single:
“Wow, I didn’t expect him to have one of those sort of proper rock voices. I thought Avenged Sevenfold was more like [mimics metal vocals]. But it’s not. [He’s even] got a little bit of Chris Cornell’s voice.
Alright, well, I was not expecting that. So gorgeous; I really love it. When it kicks off, it’s got sort off; it’s not a ‘Kashmir’ groove, but it’s definitely in that low-mid tempo stuff. It never gets too metal-y like that. And then that second section, when it changes into an orchestral arrangement, almost and then incredible solo. It’s so good. That’s six minutes that I really enjoyed.”
We might easily say that Avenged Sevenfold made an impressive comeback and showed what gems they have had in store for years. It was a pleasant surprise for Justin to hear the song’s melodic and rhythmic sound while still having all the elements of a proper rock song.
