The Rolling Stones have canceled their planned 2026 tour. The Sun reports that the decision stems from Keith Richards’ reluctance to commit to an extended stadium tour.

The band had been in discussions with major promoters about scheduling dates for the summer. However, the tour plans ultimately fell through during internal deliberations. According to a music critic quoted by the publication, Richards expressed concerns about his ability to sustain such a demanding schedule.

“The Rolling Stones had all the big promoters throwing loads of ideas and dates at them for next summer,” the critic said. “But when they properly sat down to discuss the tour, Keith said he didn’t think he could commit and wasn’t keen on a big stadium tour for over four months.”

The band had previously attempted to organize a tour earlier in the year but were unable to make the logistics work. Despite having confirmed work on a new album, the group has decided to postpone live performances until they feel ready to return to the stage.

The cancelation marks a significant shift for the legendary rock band, which has maintained an active touring schedule in recent years. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the 2026 stadium tour of Europe and the United Kingdom was never officially announced. Promoters had held tentative dates based on expectations from band comments and previous touring patterns.

The decision comes at a time when the band appeared poised for a major comeback. Guitarist Ronnie Wood noted in September that a new album—their second with producer Andrew Watt—was nearly finished for 2026 release. Ultimate Classic Rock noted that pianist Chuck Leavell expressed confidence in a 2026 Europe tour in November 2025. These statements had fueled speculation among fans and industry observers about an imminent tour announcement.

Keith Richards, who turned 82 in December 2025, cited the rigors of a multi-country stadium run lasting over four months as too strenuous for him at this stage of his life. Consequence revealed that Richards has openly discussed his arthritis, which has altered his guitar playing style in recent years. Despite this, he performed energetically in a short New York set recently, demonstrating that age has not entirely diminished his capabilities.

The band’s most recent major outing provides context for the scale of commitment they were considering. KOMO News reported that the 2024 Hackney Diamonds North American stadium tour sold nearly 1 million tickets across 20 shows and grossed approximately $235 million. A grueling schedule of this magnitude would have been replicated across Europe and the UK for the planned 2026 tour.

A band spokesperson indicated they would return to the stage when ready. No immediate plans have been confirmed. For devoted Rolling Stones fans, the wait continues as the iconic group prioritizes the health and well-being of its members over commercial pressures.
