Kurt Cobain’s uncle Gary Cobain has broken his silence regarding recent developments in the investigation of Kurt Cobain’s death, as reported by Daily Mail.

Gary Cobain’s comments come as an unofficial private sector team of forensic scientists reexamined the Nirvana frontman’s death. They claimed it was a homicide, not a suicide as originally ruled.

“He was murdered. It’s nice that someone else finally caught on,” Gary Cobain said.

The uncle served seven years in the Army during the 1970s. He provided additional details about his concerns regarding the physical evidence.

“There should’ve been prints all over the gun. The gun was 45 inches long, I don’t think I could reach that myself,” Gary explained.

He also reflected on his nephew’s character and the changes he observed over time.

“Kurt was a good kid, he was happy and goofy. But that all went downhill when his parents got divorced. It was upsetting,” he added.

This marks a significant development as family members have largely remained silent about the circumstances surrounding Kurt Cobain’s 1994 death.

The recent claims have reignited decades-old debates about the circumstances of Cobain’s death. Official authorities remain unmoved by the new allegations.

Fox13 Seattle reported that the Seattle Police Department has stated that the Kurt Cobain case remains closed and will not be reopened. This stance persists despite recent tabloid reports and claims from private investigators. Seattle Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Patrick Michaud confirmed this week that the department “has no plans” to revisit the case.

The latest forensic examination represents just one of many attempts over the years to challenge the official suicide ruling. Global News noted that this pattern has repeated multiple times since Cobain’s death. Various individuals have claimed they have proof that the Nirvana frontman was murdered. These claims have consistently been debunked by authorities.

Despite the ongoing speculation and private investigations, Euronews confirmed that as of February 2026, Kurt Cobain’s death remains officially classified as a suicide. The case has been the subject of numerous conspiracy theories and alternative investigations over the past three decades. None have succeeded in changing the official determination.

The persistence of these alternative theories reflects the enduring impact of Cobain’s death on popular culture and the music world. Military.com observed that new murder claims continue to reignite debate over Kurt Cobain’s death. Law enforcement maintains its position that the case is definitively closed.
