Lawless explained that juggling the band’s ongoing tour, a book he is writing, and new music has made it difficult to commit to a timeline. He was asked directly about the prospects of new material once the current tour wraps up.
Asked, “Once this tour is over, this 84 To Headless tour is over, is there a possibility for some new music?” Lawless responded:
“We’ve been working on stuff for a while,” Lawless said. “But I’m also working on a book, you know, between doing these tours and doing the book and doing the new music.”
“It’s like, you know, stick a broom up with bet and sweep, you know, at the same time when you’re not doing, you know, it’s like, you know, at some point, yes, we will, but I can’t tell you when,” he continued. “I would like to say next year, but people are asking me about the book, and I wanting to say next year as well. So, I really I don’t know, right? You know, it’s just… But we are working on it.”
W.A.S.P. remains on the road with the 1984 To Headless Tour. Any new music details are expected to follow once the tour concludes.
Lawless’s hesitation makes more sense once the full scope of his workload comes into view. The new music, the book, and the tour have all been running in parallel for years. Each project has been competing for the same limited hours.
The new material Lawless referenced is not a fresh undertaking. Work on the songs has been underway for about three years, according to Blabbermouth. That means the band has been quietly developing what would be its first studio album since 2015’s “Golgotha” well before the current tour cycle began.
The book competing for Lawless’s attention carries the working title “Tales From The Square Mile.” He has described it as a project he is roughly halfway through. Meanwhile, the 1984 To Headless Tour itself is set to keep the band busy for weeks to come. The North American run kicks off September 10 and continues through October 31.
