Puscifer has released “ImpetuoUs,” the third and final preview from their eagerly awaited album “Normal Isn’t,” set for release on February 6, as announced on Instagram.
The band shared the new track with fans, describing it as the final preview before the full album launch. Maynard James Keenan offered his perspective on the creative process and expressed curiosity about how listeners will interpret the song.
“I’m looking forward to hearing where this song takes people,” Keenan said. “As the writers, we forget that in a way, we are carpenters and that we’ve been with this song since it was a pile of lumber.”
He continued to elaborate on the difference between the creators’ and listeners’ perspectives.
“Our Perspective may differ from the final occupant of this space we’ve constructed,” he continued. “Shelter, Bridge or Gallows, Coffin? Curious to find out.”
The release builds anticipation for Puscifer’s upcoming album “Normal Isn’t,” scheduled to drop on February 6.
The upcoming album represents a significant evolution in Puscifer’s sound and creative approach. It marks their return after a four-year gap since their last full-length release.
Kiss Rocks reported that “Normal Isn’t” serves as the follow-up to 2020’s “Existential Reckoning” and will be released via Puscifer Entertainment/Alchemy Recordings/BMG. The 11-track record includes previously released songs “Self Evident” and “Pendulum” alongside the newly unveiled “ImpetuoUs.”
The creative process behind “Normal Isn’t” took place across multiple locations. Blabbermouth noted that the album was written and recorded in Arizona, Los Angeles, and on the road during last year’s Sessanta tour. This diverse recording environment has contributed to a more raw and guitar-driven sound that marks a departure from the band’s previous work.
Co-producer Mat Mitchell described the band’s approach to the new material. He explained that they “got rid of the guard rails and made the music more aggressive.” This shift reflects Puscifer’s willingness to embrace a more uncompromising sonic direction while maintaining their signature blend of dark electronics and sharp humor.
Keenan has positioned “Normal Isn’t” as a reflection of contemporary times. He described the band’s role as storytellers whose job is to “observe, interpret and report” on a world that “does not appear normal. Not by a long shot.” Kerrang confirmed that the band has also announced a North American tour running through the spring to support the album release.
