Rikki Rocket is uncomfortable with people who criticize bands that express political views in their lyrics.

In the latest posts he shared on X, the drummer slammed the haters while clarifying that Poison was never a political band:

“Poison has never been a political rock band, but many bands have been and are since the 60’s. Why do people get all riled about that shit?”

Rockett’s Comments On Punk Music

Many genres of music, especially punk, have been about politics from the moment it first started. Acknowledging this, Rockett wrote in another post that some bands would have never been alive today if it was not for the politics:

“Punk was clearly as much of a social movement as a musical one. The Clash, The Sex Pistols would never be without politics. Poison grew out of the industrial region of PA. We wanted fun and so we wrote about it.”

The Involvement Of Politics In Rock And Metal

Today, many of the bands we know involve politics in their music, even bands such as Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Megadeth. There is a growing view among some people who are not particularly pleased with the way musicians are putting their political opinions in their lyrics.

Poison and Rikki Rockett are not the only ones who constantly get negative comments for including politics in their lyrics. This issue has been bothering many rockers, including Within Temptation’s Sharon den Adel, and Svalbard’s Serena Cherry, both of whom acknowledged that people don’t like politics ‘shoved down their throats,’ and that politics are just people’s thoughts as artists.
