Matt Montgomery, known as Piggy D., recently shared his thoughts on working with Marilyn Manson during the artist’s sobriety journey. He spoke in an interview with Radioactive MikeZ.
When asked about working with a newly sober Manson, Montgomery expressed his admiration for the transformation he has witnessed.
“Yeah, he’s amazing,” Montgomery said. “His focus is sharp and he is an inspiration to people; he really is.”
The bassist went on to discuss his personal connection to sobriety and recovery stories.
“And I’m proud to stand next to him, because I think he’s representing hard,” he continued. “And as somebody that’s been in and out of sobriety over the years, it’s amazing to see somebody turn their life around.”
Montgomery emphasized the universal impact of recovery narratives.
“It’s always an amazing story,” he said. “It doesn’t matter who they are. It’s always an amazing story. The miracle is never lost on me. You put a microphone in front of it, you can do some good. And it’s cool.”
He concluded by reflecting on his experience being part of Manson’s current chapter.
“It’s been really cool to be along for the ride for this rebirth,” Montgomery said. “And the band is killer, and we have a great time, and the shows have been rad. And, yeah, I can’t say or feel any better about it.”
Montgomery’s involvement with Marilyn Manson represents a significant career transition. It brings together two prominent figures in the industrial metal scene.
98 KUPD reported that Montgomery previously served as Rob Zombie’s bassist for nearly two decades. He played with the horror rock icon since 2006. His departure from Zombie’s band was announced in January 2024. Rob “Blasko” Nicholson replaced him, marking the end of a long-standing musical partnership.
The timing of Montgomery’s transition coincides with Marilyn Manson’s return to active touring. 98 KUPD noted that Manson is currently on tour. This marks his first performances since allegations against him were made public in 2021. This tour follows the release of his single “As Sick as the Secrets Within.” The single was his first music release since those allegations surfaced.
The collaboration between Montgomery and Manson also highlights the interconnected nature of the industrial metal community. 98 KUPD revealed that Marilyn Manson has a history of sharing band members with other artists, including Rob Zombie. He previously shared guitarist John 5 with Zombie. This musical cross-pollination has created lasting relationships within the genre.
Montgomery’s enthusiasm for this new chapter reflects both his professional growth and personal connection to recovery stories. This positions him as a supportive figure during what he describes as Manson’s “rebirth era.”
