Genesis drummer and lead singer Phil Collins recently revealed in Drumeo’s ‘Phil Collins: Drummer First’ documentary that he isn’t the biggest fan of the group.
“I’m not Genesis’s biggest fan, you know,” the drummer admitted. “There’s stuff that I like, stuff I’m proud of – [but also] stuff that [I’m] less so. Sometimes it can be like people throwing bricks at you.”
He mentioned enjoying his time with the band but shared, “I’ve been playing drums since I was 5 – there’s gonna be dogs! There’s gonna be stuff you enjoy hearing back, and others not so.”
Collins also mentioned that his least favorite song was ‘Down and Out’ from 1978’s ‘…And Then There Were Three…,’ which marked a new direction for the band’s sound after Steve Hackett left. Genesis split for good in 2022.
When asked about the end of his life on tour and if he missed it, the drummer shared in the documentary, “It’s still kind of sinking in a bit. I’m 71, I’ve spent all my life playing drums. To suddenly not be able to do that is a shock.”
“If I can’t do what I did as well as I did it, I’d rather relax and not do anything. If I wake up one day and I can hold a pair of drumsticks and then I will have a crack at it but I just feel like I’ve used up my air miles.”
Since their last show in March 2022, Collins has kept a low profile. He couldn’t play drums during that tour due to health problems like a dislocated vertebra, nerve damage, and foot fractures.
