Pattie Boyd was one of the leading models during the 1960s, but later, she also gained recognition due to her relationships. She did not only marry George Harrison at the height of the Beatles’ popularity, but she also tied the knot with his close friend Eric Clapton a few years after her divorce. Still, it sounds like this didn’t affect their relationship with the Beatle, as she recently revealed the details of her last interaction with George while speaking to CBS Mornings.
“He came to see me much later, just before he died,” disclosed Boyd when she was shown the last picture she took of Harrison. “It was six months or so before he died. As he drove off, I knew that would be the last time I’d see him.” When asked if Harrison came to say goodbye, Boyd replied, “Yeah.”
When talking about George Harrison and Eric Clapton, Pattie said, “I feel that I had the most wonderful and fabulous experience being married to two unreservedly talented geniuses.” Then, the interviewer wanted to make sure she still thought it was amazing regardless of the trouble her relationships brought. Boyd confirmed, saying, “Yeah. The trouble is part of life.”
George Harrison and Pattie Boyd got married on January 21, 1966, but in the following years, their relationship deteriorated because of his struggle with addiction and numerous affairs. Around the same time, Harrison started working with Eric Clapton, and the two became close friends, which is why Clapton spent most of his time with George and his wife. That’s when Clapton fell in love with Boyd.
In 1974, she broke up with Harrison due to his continuous affairs with various women. Later, Eric stole Boyd’s heart, and the couple married in 1979. Regardless of this love triangle and how the two musicians were friends at the time, neither Eric Clapton nor George Harrison felt bitterness toward each other.
They continued to see one another, and Pattie continued seeing her ex-husband as well. That is, of course, until George Harrison’s passing on November 29, 2001, at McCartney’s property on Heather Road in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles. The musician was 58 years old when he lost his battle with cancer.
