Paramore Announce Their ‘First Order Of Business’ As An Independent Band: ‘Sorry For Any Inconvenience’
Paramore, the trio consisting of Hayley Williams, Taylor York, and Zac Farro, have declared their commitment to independence in the music industry, unveiling their plans as ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024 in a recent Instagram announcement.
In a statement, Paramore expressed their dedication to maintaining a lasting presence in the music industry as an independent entity, writing:
“After a long career in the music industry, we have decided to announce that… We are going to continue to have a long career in the music industry (sorry for any inconvenience). Our first order of business as a freshly independent Paramore is to shine a light on independent record stores — a vital part of our journey from music-obsessed school friends to professional music makers. With that being said, we are humbled to be your Ambassadors for Record Store Day 2024. The timing feels kismet.”
Championing The Music Community
Embracing the experience of music discovery, they added:
“The discovery of music was always meant to be romantic. Indie record shops are some of the only spaces we’ve got that offer a tangible, tactile experience of music discovery. In this world that feels more disconnected and hostile than ever, it feels important to remain in touch (literally) with what inspires us, empowers us, or simply brings us joy. Thankfully, for all our sakes, there still survives among the chaos, the purity and radical simplicity of a great record store.”
In the concluding part of their post, the band signed off:
“Independently yours, Paramore.”
The upcoming Record Store Day is set to take place on April 20. Previous ambassadors have ranged from Taylor Swift and St. Vincent to Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Jack White, among other notable artists.
Transitioning To Independence
Earlier this year, Paramore worried some fans by canceling many live shows, clearing their website and social media, and hinting at their next phase. The band’s 20-year deal with Atlantic Records ended in December 2023 with ‘This Is Why,’ making them free agents.
Recently, Paramore won two awards at the 2024 Grammy Awards: Best Alternative Music Performance and Best Rock Album for their ‘This Is Why.’ This was historic because it was the first time a female-fronted band won the Best Rock Album award. Next up, Paramore will perform at Lollapalooza Brasil and then join Taylor Swift to kick off the European leg of the Eras Tour.
