Oli Sykes Refuses To Care About Bring Me The Horizon’s Fame And Success

Oli Sykes believes that fame and success don’t determine Bring Me The Horizon’s hard work.

In a recent interview with Triple J, BMTH chatted about their new era, being together for 20 years, and success.

Sykes talked about how they go out of their way to make sure that fame and success don’t mess with their work. He also added that it’s crucial to keep their songwriting on point:

“It’s a hard head space to get as a band especially when you go headlining festivals big and people are saying, ‘Oh you could be one of the biggest rock bands in the world.’ So easy for that to mess with your head because it’s, not in a negative way but, all I got to say in my head is that it’s not true. It doesn’t matter, that’s not true. It’s really easy to just fall off and be high on your own supply, believe in your own hype, get lazy, get complacent. 20 years on I feel like we’re still working, we’re working harder than we ever worked before.”

BMTH ‘Accidentally’ Became Big

BMTH released their fifth album, ‘That’s The Spirit,’ back in late 2015, and it quickly became one of their best-selling records to date. Then they took things to the next level by performing at the Royal Albert Hall with an orchestra and choir. Even though they’ve been around for 20 years, many say that they are on the verge of becoming big-time rockstars like it hasn’t been seen in the UK since the ’80s.

Back in 2016, Sykes spoke to The Independent to explain how his band never expected to get this big because they ‘were not trying’ to do so in the first place:

“We’re kind of just always playing catchup with what’s being asked of us. It’s not like we’re trying to get big. Everything’s just like mental. Nothing has become normal.”

Do they feel like a big band? Sykes answered:

“We don’t really feel like an arena band. We’ll hopefully feel like one once we’ve played it.”

The band’s next album ‘POST HUMAN: NeX GEn’ is expected to drop this summer.
