Nita Strauss: ‘Demi Lovato Is A Rock Star’

3 Min Read

Ahead of her Sonic Temple 2024 show at the Historic Crew Stadium on May 16, Nita Strauss joined a chat with WOUB. The guitarist discussed her time on Demi Lovato’s ‘Holy Fvck Tour’ in 2022, comparing it to her solo work and shows with Alice Cooper:

“It wasn’t all that different, to be honest. Demi’s a rockstar. We did a rock show. I think a lot of people expected that I was going to go into this very well-oiled pop machine, and it wasn’t like that. She wanted to do a rock tour. We did a rock tour, and we had a blast. We had a grand time. It wasn’t so different from any other tour I’ve ever done.”

During the tour, Lovato embraced a rock style, performing rock versions of their earlier pop songs. This shift followed the release of their 2022 hard rock album, ‘Holy Fvck.’

Lovato Is In Her ‘Rock Phase’

In addition to being a touring guitarist for them, Strauss collaborated with Lovato in the studio, featuring on the track ‘La La Land’ from their 2023 rock album ‘REVAMPED.’ She further commented on the ‘Heart Attack’ singer’s musical direction in a ‘Beyond The Boys Club’ podcast episode, noting:

“But Demi’s new record is quite heavy; she’s going into a more of a rock phase of her career. She’s a rocker, metalhead at heart. So we really did a straightforward rock show. Even her older pop hits were reimagined into rock versions.”

Even before bringing out her rocker side, Lovato showed their love for death metal and metalcore music by naming some of the genre’s bands as their favorite.

The Singer Worked With Metal Artists

In recent years, while reimagining their songs as rock pieces, the 31-year-old singer also worked with some notable rockers, including Alice Cooper. Both involved in Strauss’ new solo record, ‘The Call Of The Void,’ the two artists co-wrote a song. The guitarist spoke about this on the SDR show after her album release in July 2023:

“Demi posted some studio footage, I’ve talked to both of them about it, they both said that it went amazingly well, and they loved working with each other. So they have not asked me to play on it yet…but after I finished the Demi tour, they went into the studio together and did a co-write.”

About what to expect from the track’s sound, she added:

“I haven’t heard the song yet, but I hear the concept of the song sounds very on-brand for both of them. So, I’m hoping I get that call.”
