Nikki Sixx Names The Band That Should’ve Gotten Bigger Than KISS

Mötley Crüe‘s Nikki Sixx recently gave an interview to Classic Rock, where he delved into the inspirations in his career. When asked about the most underrated band in the industry during the chat, he revealed who should’ve been bigger than KISS by saying:

“I always felt like the Ramones were underrated. They should have been one of the biggest bands in the world. I mean, they had everything that Kiss have: they had a uniform look, with their ripped jeans and leather jackets, they had these hooky, power-pop/punk rock songs, and I always feel like they should have been bigger for longer, they should have been huge.”

Sixx had rocky times with KISS and its bassist in the past. In 2014, after Gene Simmons’ words about drug addiction and depression, involving controversial phrases like ‘kill yourself,’ the bassist criticized him on his Sixx Sense radio show and explained:

“It’s pretty moronic because [Simmons] thinks everybody listens to him, that he is the God of Thunder. He will tell you he is the greatest man on earth, and to be honest with you, I like Gene. But in this situation, I don’t like Gene. I don’t like Gene’s words. There is a 20-year-old kid out there who is a KISS fan and reads this and goes, ‘You know what? He’s right. I should just kill myself.'”

Before that incident, the two bands worked together on a few occasions. Mötley Crüe opened for KISS at a number of concerts in 1983 before getting fired for their ‘hard-partying.’

Decades after that, the groups co-headlined a summer tour in 2012. Rolling Stone listed ‘The Tour’ as one of ‘The Ten Hottest Summer Package Tours of 2012.’
