Why Nikki Sixx Doesn’t Like Gene Simmons Anymore

We all know that Gene Simmons does not use a filtering system much as he usually says what comes to his mind. This situation is valid even in the most sensitive subjects. With some of his words, the rocker has often caused even the people closest to him to turn their backs on him.

A similar situation occurred in 2014. In this story, it was his friend Nikki Sixx whom he annoyed. The two were known to be close, especially after their legendary tour in 2012. They did over fifty gigs together on ‘The Tour,’ and they often talked about their unique musical chemistry. However, two years later, some remarks of Simmons would break this spell.

Gene Simmons spoke about drug addiction, depression, and suicide in 2014, and these unfiltered statements included controversial phrases like ‘kill yourself.’ Nikki Sixx is a recovering drug addict and has personal experience of how challenging it can be to battle drug addiction and suicidal thoughts.

He was also aware of the seriousness of these two and knew that these were the issues that required professional help. He was doing a radio show called Sixx Sense at the time, and on that show, he shared his thoughts on his friend’s remarks. He did not accept the irresponsible behavior of a figure like Gene Simmons, who was especially popular among a young audience.

“It’s pretty moronic because [Simmons] thinks everybody listens to him, that he is the God of Thunder,” he said, harshly criticizing his friend’s words. “He will tell you he is the greatest man on earth, and to be honest with you; I like Gene. But in this situation, I don’t like Gene. I don’t like Gene’s words. There is a 20-year-old kid out there who is a KISS fan and reads this and goes, ‘You know what? He’s right. I should just kill myself.’”

He continued, “For people who are depressed, there is a way out. There are many, many ways out. And I don’t want people to listen to an interview from a rock star, who’s telling you the only way out is out.”

Simmons apologized in a post he shared on his Facebook account shortly after this incident. He said he didn’t choose his words correctly in the heat of the interview and never meant to offend those who struggled with depression. The rocker said his problem was alcoholics and drug addicts portraying themselves as victims. Regardless, he had offended his friend Nikki Sixx, who had also dealt with these serious issues at some point in his life.
