Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx revealed his past attempt to recruit Sweet’s vocalist Brian Connolly for his early band London in a new post on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“Any fans of the band Sweet? I loved them growing up,” Sixx shared. “Not a bad song on these two albums [Sweet albums ‘Give Us a Wink’ and ‘Desolation Boulevard’].”

“Someday I’ll have to post the letter that I wrote to Brian Connolly asking him to join my little ratty Hollywood band London,” he continued. “Jesus, the balls on me back then.”

This unexpected revelation sheds light on the connection between Sixx and Connolly, highlighting their impact on rock music history.

Biographical sources documented that Sixx and Lizzie Grey formed London in 1978. Their venture began after leaving Sister, a band led by Blackie Lawless. London recorded several demos but never achieved major commercial success despite multiple lineup changes.

The Inquisitr detailed Connolly’s role as Sweet’s original lead singer. He guided the band to numerous UK Top 20 hits. Their successes included iconic songs like ‘Block Buster!’ and ‘The Ballroom Blitz.’ Connolly remained with the band until 1979 before pursuing a solo career.

American Songwriter highlighted Sweet’s substantial influence on Mötley Crüe’s musical evolution. Sweet dominated the original glam era. Mötley Crüe later pioneered the glam metal scene in the 1980s. They maintained elements of their predecessors’ sound while crafting their unique style.

Sixx likely wrote his letter to Connolly during London’s early stages. This occurred before Sixx formed Mötley Crüe in 1981, while London was still establishing itself in the Hollywood music scene.
