The Story Of Maynard James Keenan Being Chased Down By A Stalker Who Thought He Was Moby

Maynard James Keenan has been regarded as one of the most successful musicians since entering the music scene in the ’80s. As the founder and frontman of three bands, Keenan gained great fame and popularity and showed that he is a talented musician who can succeed in both rock and metal.

Therefore, Keenan has had a huge and dedicated fan base who wants to listen to meet him in person. His bands’ concerts and tours drew the attention of millions of people worldwide, and Keenan’s face was on almost every poster and magazine cover. However, his extraordinary style and image during his performances led to some misunderstandings.

The Reason Why A Stalker Followed Maynard James Keenan

Like almost every rock star, it is expected that Maynard James Keenan had to face stalker problems, but one of them was more unusual than the other ones. As he wasn’t being followed by a stalker who was a fan of him but because she was another musician’s fan. The woman thought that he was Moby, a well-known musician, songwriter, producer, and animal activist.

The woman started following Keenan while he was at a mall in Cleveland. During one of his interviews, he recalled that he initially thought that the woman suspected he had stolen something from the store, so she kept following him. However, she asked, ‘Are you Moby?’ and Keenan understood that the stalker actually wanted to meet Moby instead of him, and he wasn’t accused of theft.

Here’s what Keenan said about the stalker:

“Oh, this is awesome. Ritz Carlton. Cleveland. There’s a mall attached to it, and I think back in the day there was a Sam Goody in it. I was in there, and this little woman kept following me around the store, and I started thinking, did she think I stole something? I’m getting nervous because this woman is following me around, and I’m wondering if I accidentally stuck a small TV in my pocket unconsciously just from being so tired from the bus ride.

Why is she stalking me? Finally, I went down an aisle that didn’t have an opening, and it’s like oh, I’m fucked. She comes up behind me, and I turn around and go ‘Hey,’ expecting her to say, ‘I need you to open up your bag,’ but instead she asks me, ‘Are you Moby?’ She thought I was Moby. I’m like, ‘You mean the 7-foot-tall dude who’s all energetic? No. I’m not that guy.'”

However, this funny memory doesn’t mean that Moby’s is more famous and popular than Maynard James Keenan. The reason behind this misunderstanding was probably Keenan’s stage style which always featured wigs, make-ups, and costumes. Eventually, he got rid of a possible stalker problem by telling her that he wasn’t Moby and went shopping.
