Nick Mason’s Disappointment About Roger Waters And David Gilmour

As much as its tremendous success and fame, Pink Floyd is also famous for its internal conflicts among the band members. The most well-known of these disagreements is the ongoing one between Roger Waters and David Gilmour. Their enduring feud has lasted longer than they spent together in Pink Floyd. Although their creative and personal divisions started much earlier, the tension during the making process of the band’s 1983 album, ‘Final Cut,’ brought Waters to the point of leaving the group.

Waters might have walked away from the band, yet that didn’t end his war with the remaining members. He started a legal battle over Pink Floyd to prevent them from using the band’s name. The bassist settled with his former bandmates the following year, but the bitter feud between Waters and Gilmour has persisted for years. The musicians have continued targeting each other in various interviews and social media posts. In a previous conversation, the band’s drummer Nick Mason also offered his insights on the issue.

What Did Nick Mason Say About Roger Waters And David Gilmour’s Feud?

Despite his noticeably understated genius, Nick Mason played an essential role in making Pink Floyd’s sound unique. The drummer was also the creative mind behind some of the band’s well-known songs like ‘Echoes’ and ‘Speak to Me.’ Although the virtuosity of his bandmates overshadowed the drummer, the diehard Pink Floyd fans are aware that it wouldn’t have been the same band without his outstanding contributions. Mason is also the only Pink Floyd member to feature in their records.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2018, Nick Mason shared his thoughts on the Gilmour-Waters feud. The drummer said it was Roger Waters’s error to think the band would collapse without him. Thus, when David Gilmour decided to carry on, it fuelled the competition between the two artists. Mason explained that he didn’t want to get stuck in this ongoing battle since it was not his concern. The drummer revealed that he got along well with both musicians, yet it is disappointing to him that Waters and Gilmour are still in a state of quarrelsome disagreement.

Nick Mason speaking on his disappointment about Gilmour and Waters:

“I think it rankles with Roger that he made a sort of error in a way that he left the band assuming that without him, it would fold. It’s a constant irritation, really, that he’s still going back to it. I’m hesitant to get too stuck into this one just because it’s between the two of them rather than me. I actually get along with both of them, and I think it’s really disappointing that these rather elderly gentlemen are still at loggerheads.”

In 2005, David Gilmour and Roger Waters put aside their disagreements and performed together as Pink Floyd for a benefit concert. Then, in 2010, they came together again for a charity event. The following year, Gilmour joined Waters on the stage to play ‘Comfortably Numb.’ However, none of these appearances led to any Pink Floyd reunion.
