You might have seen that the Spiritbox signer Courtney LaPlante got mixed up with Poppy during the Grammys. In a recent Instagram Live, the singer talked about her plan.

“I was like, ‘don’t say anything too crazy’ because I don’t know Poppy and Knocked Loose well enough to go crazy on it, you know? What if they don’t like this? What if they feel like I’m mocking their achievements, because I wasn’t – I think this is very funny,” she said during the livestream.

LaPlante also compared the situation to a past interview where Charlie XCX was mistaken for Lorde. “It reminded me of [when] Charlie XCX was doing an interview and someone was like ‘What was it like writing [the Lorde song] ‘Royals’ or something like that?’ And instead of being all sh*tty about it, she just talked about writing ‘Royals’ and being a teenager from New Zealand.”

“I took that as my inspiration, and I think everyone left happy, right? We got promotion of Poppy and Knocked Loose in there, I slipped a little Spiritbox and Courtney in there too,” the singer added.

At the 2025 Grammy Awards on February 2, an interviewer mistakenly called Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante ‘Poppy’ on the red carpet. LaPlante played along with the mix-up. In a fan-shared video on X, the interviewer congratulated her on the nomination.

LaPlante responded with, “I am Poppy, and I am really happy to be here nominated with Knocked Loose. I really hope we win.” When the interviewer mentioned that Poppy had been nominated before, LaPlante confirmed, “No, I was actually nominated in 2020.”

She went on, “Really happy to be here again, would love to take home the Grammy for Knocked Loose and myself because I would be the first woman to win this award.”

When asked how many women had been nominated for Best Metal Performance, she said, “I actually haven’t looked at that but I just always know that it’s time for one of us to win. I hope it’s me or Spiritbox and Courtney.”

Even after LaPlante’s hesitation about pretending to be Poppy, Poppy later shared the video on Instagram with photos from the event. LaPlante reposted it on her Stories.

In the end, Gojira won the Best Metal Performance for ‘Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira).’
