A new eight-part docu-series from the makers of Dark Side of the Ring will explore the ‘untold’ history of heavy metal in 2025. While certain details are still under wraps, the series is currently in development for Hulu under the working title ‘Into the Void,’ a nod to Black Sabbath.
The series was announced this week by Deadline. They confirmed that Vice Studios Canada is producing the show, focusing on ‘the emotional sagas behind the most towering legends and unforgettable artists in heavy metal.’ It will be available on Hulu in the U.S.
‘Into the Void’ is being produced by Evan Husney and Jason Eisener, the creators of ‘Dark Side of the Ring.’ It premiered in 2019 and became Vice TV’s most-watched series. They also produced ‘Tales from the Territories,’ a similar documentary series.
“We both grew up as diehard fans of metal and have always been fascinated by the boundaries between fantasy and reality,” Husney said in an Instagram post. “The sonic worlds created by the genre’s boldest icons are rich with untold history and unimaginable trials and tribulations, and we’re excited to team up with Hulu to look beyond the mystique and show these legends as real people.”
Although the list of metal legends featured in the docu-series has not yet been revealed, Husney mentioned that the full list of subjects will be announced later in 2025.
